An arrival like no other
Most people arrive to Bruny in a line of cars at the ferry terminal, which can mean hours of wait time and less time to actually enjoy the island.
We’ve found another way.
We’ll either pick you up from Hobart or meet you at Oyster Cove Marina in Kettering - about a 30 minute drive south of town. Then, we’ll take the slow way across: about an hour and a half on the water, past Iron Pot, Tasmania's oldest lighthouse, or down toward the Neck for a rare view of one of Bruny's most famous spots. We'll watch for seals, dolphins and seabirds along the way, and share the stories that have shaped these waterways for many, many years.
A long lunch worth lingering over
Our lunch experience is designed to slow you down, show you the best of our local cuisine and enjoy time in one of Bruny’s most beautiful venues, right on the foreshore of Dennes Point, Bruny Island.
Your lunch will feature a custom menu showcasing the best local food and wine Bruny has to offer, including Get Shucked Oysters, Bruny Island Cheese, Tasmanian beer, wine & cider and seasonal locally grown produce - served over four courses, long-table style.
Tell us what your group loves and we'll build the menu around you!

Meet your hosts
Howdy & G’Day!
We're Cameron and Lezli, a Tasmanian and a Texan who met over tacos in Austin, took the leap on love, and built a life at the far edge of the world on Bruny Island.
We’ve been here nearly a decade, and fall more and more in love with Bruny with each passing year. We started Islander because we want to share our home with guests in a meaningful, unique way; for you to feel what life is really like here and fall in love with the magic of the place just like we have.
Hosting every experience ourselves, we want you to experience the island not simply as a visitor, but as we do: through the stories, flavours, landscapes, and community that make it so special.
Get to know The side of Bruny Island most people never see
Showcasing stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, secluded coves, rich history and a close-knit community, North Bruny Island is the island's hidden gem. Home to our signature Long Lunch experience, this quieter corner of Bruny sits just across the channel from mainland Tasmania, yet feels a world away. Reached only by boat or winding gravel roads, it's a place many visitors never discover.
As North Bruny locals, we'll introduce you to the places, people and stories that make this part of the island so special.

Yes. Most of our guests are staying in Hobart. You'll drive (or we'll bring you) about 30 minutes south to Kettering, where the day begins on the water. Plan on around 7 hours with travel from Hobart included. We can arrange transport from Hobat for an additional fee, just chat to us when you book!
-
The tour departs from Kettering, roughly 30 minutes south of Hobart. If you'd rather not drive, we can arrange transport from Hobart for your group for an extra fee, just ask when you book.
-
Yes, you can visit Bruny Island without a car by joining our Long Lunch day trip, which travels by private boat from Kettering and includes all your transport on the island. We can also arrange pickup from Hobart. Most visitors are told they need a car or a coach tour to see Bruny, because there's no public transport once you're there. We drive, you don't have to, and you skip the vehicle ferry entirely.
-
We do not recommend doing day trips to Bruny island by car as this clogs the ferry queue and gives you very little time to actually experience the island. Our day trip by boat runs about 6 hours from Kettering, skipping the ferry queue altogether - which leaves real time to eat slowly, soak in the northern beaches and be hosted by people who live here.
If you’re wanting to see the majority of sights that Bruny has to offer- a day trip isn’t the answer. We always recommend staying at least three nights if you want to really see it all. But if you’re wanting to experience Bruny like a local for the day - come do it with us! We’ll treat you to a day you won’t forget. -
Up to 8 on the boat, and the whole experience is private.
-
Absolutely. Tell us how your group eats when you book and Ray will build the menu around it.

We skip the ferry altogether utilising our private vessel, however if you would like the ferry experience, we can walk you onto the ferry for your return to mainland Tassie, as it arrives right back where we departed. Walking onto the ferry is free, and fun!
